You Don’t Have to be a Victim of Your Genes

Heredity is a risk factor for many chronic diseases, including heart disease. My father experienced his first heart attack at 42 years old, while I had mine at 31. After the cardiologist cleared the blood clot in my coronary artery and placed a stent, he told me, “If you hadn’t come in tonight, you wouldn’t have woken up tomorrow.” This left me wondering whether I would live the rest of my life in fear of dying from a heart attack.
