As a health and wellness coach, I'm often asked for nutrition advice and assistance with meal planning. These requests are typically motivated by extrinsic factors, and the idea that they "should" be eating healthier.
However, support that only focuses on what you eat rarely leads to sustained health outcomes. The true role of a coach is to help you go beneath the surface to get clear on what you really want; then guide you to intrinsic motivation, so that you can tap into your inner resources to achieve the goals that you set.
The process starts by taking a deep dive into where you are: your current strengths, challenges, health status and resources. That has little to do with the food you eat and more to do with your Primary Foods - the things that feed your soul (your career, relationships, physical activity and spirituality). Nutrition is a secondary source of energy. Primary foods, or nonfood sources of nourishment, are what really fuel us.
When was the last time you took stock of your level of satisfaction with your primary foods? One tool that I use with clients in the coaching process is the Circle of Life. This exercise will help you discover which primary foods need attention to create more balance in your life.
Try it for yourself. Place a dot on the line for each of the 12 sections to designate how satisfied you are with that aspect of your life. A dot placed towards the center of the circle indicates dissatisfaction, while a dot placed towards the periphery indicates ultimate happiness. When you have placed a dot on each line, connect the dots to see your Circle of Life. Now you have a clear visual of any areas that may need your attention.
If you find that your level of satisfaction is not where you would like it to be, schedule your free well-being audit with me to find out if Firefly's Holistic Wellness program is right for you. If you don't see a time that works for you, email me and we can coordinate a mutually convenient time to chat.
