As the days grow warmer, and we approach the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere (the solstice is on Sunday), I'm reminded of the fireflies that lit up the night sky where I grew up in NH.
When I chose the name Firefly for my business, I was thinking about my mission of helping you ignite your inner light, and allowing it to shine for the world to see.
Aside from light and illumination, some reasons this beetle is a perfect representation of Firefly Community are:
It's what’s on the inside that counts: Fireflies teach us the value of looking within for illumination. A firefly looks like an ordinary beetle during the day, but is a remarkable sight when it glows at night. This serves as a reminder that it's that which is inside us that makes us shine. Our unique inner light is what illuminates us, and those around us.
Live simply, and minimize wasteful consumption: Fireflies use their environment as efficiently as possible, do not produce heat in order to create light, and eat very little in order to gain their energy. In the same way, we can respect our resources, minimize consumption, and avoid burning ourselves out in pursuit of our goals. Development can be a natural process.
Life is full of magic: The mysterious, magical lightening bug brings us back to our youth and the magical belief that anything is possible; a time when the world was full of awe and wonder. The firefly represents the freedom of spirit to manifest the dreams of your heart and live with passion.
It doesn't hurt that there is also a yoga pose called firefly.
As Carl Jung says "Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart...who looks outside, dreams. who looks inside, awakens."
The true measure of success is joy. Your intuition helps guide you - when you love something, your intuition is leading you where to go. Our lives have become so busy, that we can lose touch with our intuition, and get caught up in expectations, or what you think you're supposed to do.
Following your bliss is the ultimate motivation for change. Measure how you're doing by the amount of bliss or joy you feel on a regular basis. How can you bring more bliss into your day? Illuminate the light that is inside of you!
